Prohibit the sale of fuel vehicles or eliminate fuel vehicles?
2023-02-17

Today, there is a strong call to ban the sale of fuel vehicles. On June 29, 2022, the European Union announced that it would stop the sale of new fuel vehicles throughout the EU by 2035, in order to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050. At present, many automobile enterprises in China have announced the time to stop producing fuel vehicles. In the world, many countries have issued the ban on the sale of fuel vehicles and the ban schedule.
In China, Hainan is the first to launch a "ban on the sale of fuel vehicles": the Hainan government has issued relevant documents, saying that the sale of fuel vehicles will be banned in Hainan in 2030. As for Haval, Geely and other brands, they have also given plans to stop the production and sales of fuel vehicles.
We will find that the domestic opposition to the ban on the sale of fuel vehicles is also stronger. Because from the perspective of the whole market, there are a large number of owners who like and have a preference for fuel vehicles. Even many people are very anxious and worried. Is it true that they will not be able to buy fuel cars in the future?
From today's perspective, is the market competition between fuel vehicles and electric vehicles over? No, it can be said that it has just begun. It will take time to verify who wins and who loses.
Of course, there are many reasons, including the energy strategy and the need to achieve carbon neutrality and environmental protection. However, forced cutting off one side of the market competition, under a single market choice, often leads to a non-benign direction of the market.
What may be the result of banning the sale of fuel vehicles?
In the author's opinion, the ban on the sale of fuel vehicles has led to insufficient market competition and the lack of more cost-effective options, which may damage the interests of consumers.
At present, the technology development and infrastructure development of fuel vehicles are more fully developed. It is more convenient to buy and repair vehicles, and the price is more cost-effective. However, at present, new energy vehicles need better solutions and products in terms of endurance, charging, safety, etc., and the current cost of replacing batteries is also very high.
Some insiders compared the joint-venture A-class car, the local A-class car, the mid-class sedan and the mid-class MPV, and found that the pure electric car also has no cost-performance ratio. It has similar configuration, but it is often more expensive. For example, the price range of Buick Micro Blue 6 and Honda Civic is 17.79-1969 million yuan for the pure electric version, and 12.99-1639 million yuan for the fuel version.
